The Greatest Man
The greatest man I knew
Was only six feet tall
He was never afraid of anything
Or ever sick at all
The greatest man I knew
Would never want us to worry
The day we got the call
We rushed in a hurry
The greatest man I knew
We were told would be okay
We drove home that night
And we prayed all the way
The greatest man I knew
Wasn’t suppose to die
There was more they could have done
And alone I sit and cry
The greatest man I knew
Has been gone for fifteen years
He was suppose to be here when I walk down the isle
And to wipe all my tears
The greatest man I knew…
Was my grandpa
Wow...the poem really grips how you felt about your grandpa and the impact his death had.
ReplyDeleteYou're writing expresses unique detail that really makes the reader feel. I lost my Dad to cancer three years ago so this poem really hit home. Thanks for sharing it with us. It was a pleasure to hear you read it in class and even more enjoyable to read again!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
See you in class!
Amazing poem Lacy. You really did have me sniffle at the end. Good word choice and voice.
